‘Beach sex’ couple charged in Dubai

Two Britons accused of having sex in public on a Dubai beach have been charged with the most serious offences open to the authorities.

Michelle Palmer, 36, and Vince Acors, 34, had hoped to escape with a caution after they publicly apologised to the police officers involved in the case.

But the pair, who as part of their bail conditions are unable to leave Dubai, have been charged with three offences which could mean a maximum sentence of six years in prison if found guilty.

Man Loses Finger, Zoo Visiting Rights

A New Mexico man has been banned from the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque after losing a finger to a jaguar’s bite — and then lying about it.

Groundskeeper Lyn Ewell saw the man, a frequent visitor to the zoo, running to the men’s room last Tuesday with one hand in his pocket, a dark stain on his pants, reports KOAT-TV of Albuquerque.

Ewell followed the man and asked him if he was OK, but he turned away and ran out of the zoo, director Ray Darnell said.

The next day, a human finger was found at the big cats’ area, looking “pretty dried up,” according to mammal curator Rick Janser.

“It looks like a Halloween prop,” Janser said.

Strip club offers free flu shots to seniors

Senior citizens in one Florida town lined up Tuesday at an establishment many would normally shun: a strip club.

The draw was free flu shots and with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encouraging everyone to get immunized this year, it appeared to be an offer many seniors couldn’t refuse, the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The club began offering the shots last week, but ran out after giving away 300. They decided to offer them again on Tuesday.

“People need the help,” said club owner Jim Veigle. “That’s why we do it.”

The $9.5 Million Parking Ticket

Glencoe authorities mistakenly mailed a parking ticket fine of more than $9.5 million to a resident, police said Thursday.

They said the $20 parking ticket was left on the person’s windshield in late August. A few weeks later a data entry clerk accidentally listed the vehicle license plate number in the space where the fine amount goes, police said.

Study: Bottled Water As Poluted As Tap Water

Tests on leading brands of bottled water turned up a variety of contaminants often found in tap water, according to a study released Wednesday by an environmental advocacy group.

The findings challenge the popular impression — and marketing pitch — that bottled water is purer than tap water, the researchers say.

However, all the brands met federal health standards for drinking water. Two violated a California state standard, the study said.

Teen Shot Three Times In Toilet Paper Prank

A toilet paper prank has led to the shooting of a 14-year-old by a southwestern Michigan man who believed strangers were trying to break into his home.

The Grand Rapids Press and WZZM-TV report the victim and four other teens were pulling the prank about 1 a.m. Sunday at a home in Solon Township, about 20 miles northeast of Grand Rapids.

Kent County sheriff’s Lt. Jerry Miedema said the teens were intent on draping the house in toilet paper, while the homeowner’s “intent was to come out shooting.”

Police say three shots were fired from a 12-gauge shotgun, striking the 14-year-old in the chest, stomach and leg. He is recovering at a local hospital.

The homeowner was not arrested, but a prosecutor is looking into possible charges.

TWO Indonesian jobseekers have been tricked into getting their faces tattooed by a bogus official offering government jobs.

Village chief Sawiyono – who was helping the men find jobs in Jakarta – claimed he had received a text message from a government official offering them work as intelligence officers but saying they would have to be inked first with a dragon tattoo, Antara state news agency said.
